I taught Introduction to Gender for the 2nd time in @AUAfghanistan this semester. Every session was a powerful reminder of hope, the potential of Afghan youth and the thirst for learning.
I am not sure I understand your comment fully. On gender analysis of wedding songs, the idea was to explore gender norms and gender roles in Af, as crystalized in one key occasion: the wedding ceremony. The analysis of adjectives used for male & female, the roles assigned, etc

I should have tried better at elucidating my point. I suppose that's the limitations of platforms such as Twitter or myself. My subsequent comment, "...sacred elements" was meant to express -- how topics such as gender norms -- are to be approached in a true inclusive manner.

What I often see happening, unfortunately, is an attempt to completely overhaul the Afghan society by 'modernizing'. This has failed in the past, not only in Afghanistan but also in other places; when things are disregarded or approached without care.
