I taught Introduction to Gender for the 2nd time in @AUAfghanistan this semester. Every session was a powerful reminder of hope, the potential of Afghan youth and the thirst for learning.

We made a promise early in the class to create a safe & judgement free space for discussion, to honor academic freedom, to commit to learning & also unlearning, and the students, all from different parts of Af & different backgrounds, delivered on the promise.

We learned about gender, but also, I hope, about our own biases, and also learned to be a bit more emphatic, a bit more tolerant & a bit more imaginative. I was amazed by the students' curiosity, commitment, courage & agility.

The news about possibility of
@AUAfghanistan shutdown is heartbreaking, not because it will shatter the dreams of so many young Afgs, but also because it will signal indifference or despair. There r many private universities in Af but@AUAfghanistan draws some of the best talentShow this thread -
@AUAfghanistan must become sustainable & a stronger institution. It is already on that path with hiring more Afghan faculty & improving quality of teaching, as well as internal reforms. It should be supported in dis transition because investing on education is investing on peace.Show this thread
