A thread on mutliple battles of Af women 1. As Afghan women activists, we have 2 fight on multiple battle-fronts every day. The first of these is on communicating d reality of the post 2001 Afg 2 Taliban, despite not only us, but also our gov still not sitting across from them.

As frustrating & emotionally challenging dis situation is, Afg women both at home & diaspora, write/campaign/advocate/mobilize everyday 2 display their strength, express their concerns & demand their place, despite not being included around many of d tables discussing peace

Women activists face verbal abuse and threats by supporters of Taliban on social media for expressing their concern, stating their position or sharing their memory of d Taliban regime or demanding for equal rights in d post peace state.

      2. But that is just 1 battle. Afghan women activists also face pressure from those who label them as "anti-peace" 4 demanding an inclusive process & aiming 4 a lasting peace. This label is used more generously against activists than anyone actually hindering the process

      3. Then there r those who label women activists as "urban", "elitist" & detached, when d last time they spoke to someone from a rural community was probably years ago, & when women r d only Af constituency that have spoken on peace from all parts of Af through @AfgWomen4Peace

          4. There are also people like Dr. Cheryl Benard who belittle Afghan women's resistance, ignoring history, context and extent of our resistance.

Despite all dis, Af women continue 2 mobilize, 2 resist, 2 speak out.Of course we still have a lot of homework 2 do, 2 include more voices from across Af, 2 develop more content on various aspects of peace, 2 broaden alliances internally & internationally, we know we MUST do more

What gives me hope n dis very uncertain time for my country, is d activism of Af women & youth & d support of friends of Af. This gives me confidence that despite d political hurdles, we might be able to utilize d opportunity 4 ending dis war, & even have hope for peace.
