1/2 Was honored to attend the #ICG (International Contact Group) meeting in London as part of the Afghan delegation and speak about elections. I spoke what elections have meant to me as an activist and citizen, emphasizing the elements of choice & agency, and public participation
2/4 I shared recommendations on the technical and political aspects of the process including recommendations for structural reforms in the IEC, process improvement for transparency & d need for international technical assistance.
3/4 On the political aspect, I spoke about the need to create consensus on d way forward, perception and expectation management, & the responsibility of all stakeholders (gov, international community, political groups) beyond just electoral bodies) to be accountable.
4/4 We need 2 creatively think about d relationship between elections & peace process, value elections beyond d act of voting as a mechanism 2 exercise choice & agency by Afgs, ensure serious reform f we expect credibility & encourage a united platform by all candidates on peace.
