The idea of interim government frightens those in power. For Afghans, Peace is the priority, not keeping you guys in power.

A couple of questions: What is d basis 4 an interim government? Where would its legitimacy come from? Who will decide on composition, term & mandate? Does it only include a small leadership group or changes across gov? How many women and in what roles? How is it better for peace?

I guess my question is, where did the national unity government get its legitimacy from? what were its basis? and who decided on its mandate and composition? How would this be any different?

The Interim Gov will include Taliban, forces outside our constitutional order and aiming to redefine it, unaccountable to any of our institutions. This opens the door to many concerns and questions, leaving our faith in the hands of few, who can reimagine our collective future.

Not that I advocate 4 interim gov, I cannot imagine the prospect of a settlement without some form of interim arrangement with or without Taliban. It is hard 2 imagine Taliban would want 2 cease violence & get integrated in the current order. Peace itself can be very legitimizing

This still doesn’t respond to any of the concerns except perhaps concerns of Taliban. What about all other constituencies? Interim arrangements vary vastly depending on the mandate, term, authority, composition, oversight and sequencing.

A united platform thru building a constitutional coalition could address d concerns of other constituencies. Arg had the time&chance 2 build this but they failed, stressing on Ghani-led, Ghani-owned & Ghani-controlled process. Now let’s see what

If creating an interim gov’t can put an end to the ongoing conflict I don’t see any rationals to oppose the idea, except by those who will lose the privileges and power.

I think there is agreement on that, the if is a big one though, in light of all concerns.
