The backlash Kiku got was way more than Yamato and people eventually got used to the idea that Kiku is trans. I also guess that since OP fandom is so globally spread many know absolutely nothing about trans people. While others use religion as an excuse to be ignorant
And there are people who genuinely haven't had the idea of a trans man cross their mind. For them its just Kaido's daughter. An element of surprise. Everything else mentioned doesn't matter to them because it was a set up for a plot twist.
Then there is the batch of people who just want a powerful female character which is understandable but also we just got Ulti who almost had Luffy go Gear 4th and was barely fazed by Yamato's attack. For example.
Lastly we have those who are just simply transphobic. Who misgender Kiku and make up ridiculous headcanons to argue that Yamato isn't trans either. Who says stuff like "don't push the LGBTQ agenda on one piece" as if Bon Clay didn't exist for 2 decades.
As much as I'm really happy for both Kiku and Yamato's existance, once the anime reaches there, real life friends will be so obnoxious about it
