    Last summer, after the Ravens made three analytics hires, I started doing some research for a story on analytics staffing in the NFL. Talked to some folks and learned some interesting things, but it was a little all over the map and we ended up tabling the story for now. (Thread)

    Also in postmortem, FWIW, our model supported SF's FG on 4th and 2 from the 24. I was personally surprised. Can't know exactly the 'reason', but suspect it liked a 2nd-half lead, and the 24 is not as juicy a 4th dn region as longer/marginal FG ranges or nearer the goal line.

    Great thread from Seth on the current landscape of football analytics. His points on player tracking data (and analytics adoption in general) are valid—teams are still in the nascent phase of converting insightful information into actionable decision support. But it’s coming...
