When Tucker Carlson founded The Daily Caller, he said he hoped it would serve as The New York Times of the right, a respectable and reputable source for reliable news, information, and analysis. That never came close to happening, and that speaks volumes about the US right.

It didn't happen, in large part, because there was basically no market for such a thing...which I guess is kinda what happens when you build a political movement around conspiracy theories and an opposition to science.

And also, Tucker's long history of being a patron for young white nationalists makes him not well suited to be a purveyor of accurate information about the United States, which at least for now understands itself to be a multi-racial democracy.https://www.thenation.com/article/culture/racism-tucker-carlson-neff/ …

I don’t think he ever believed it though. He appeared on InfoWars and shared grievances with Jones, after Sandy Hook.

So true. On the few occasions when I actually took the time to do some fact-checking and follow what they were up to, it was basically a petri dish for wackos struggling to look respectable.

Carlson reminds me of a kid I went to high school with who ran for Class President on the platform to abolish school dance funds coming out of school funding because no one would dance with him.

I am not sure if Tucker was on the level with this goal. *shrug* (salesman gotta sale, con man never drops the influence game.)

Because there was already a WSJ? It's not exclusively of the right, but the nyt isn't exclusively of the left.

Their biggest problem: the NYT was already delivering the best that could be pulled together.
