In the 1st instance, the person in question is the President of the world's most heavily armed nation. In the 2nd instance, it is a 1st generation college student w/ a homemade sign and 561 Twitter followers. But it's really that college student who poses the totalitarian threat.

Ok, I just have one more thing to say about this. Rigid dogmatism & closed-mindedness are bad. Every dogmatic leftist I knew in college has evolved in their politics. Most dogmatic conservatives I knew in college (like Bret?) have exactly the same politics they did 30 years ago.

In this regard, I mostly agree with you. But I do think some of them, such as Max Boot, are pretty adamant.

Yes, Boot has definitely been far more outspoken. That said, he still has a tendency to play into the "dangerous, totalitarian left" narrative that, IMO, is mostly a red herring and a distraction.
