(PS) I'm going to update the above article with the statement just made to QAnon crazies in Dallas by Michael Flynn. Flynn openly advocates for a military overthrow of the Biden Administration. The FBI and DOJ should begin investigating Michael Flynn for this statement right now.
(PS2) It's amazing to me that a retired soldier who had top security clearance as America's NSA—after a stint atop the DIA—can address an angry crowd of insurrectionists on camera, tell them a military coup of Biden's administration "should" happen, and the reaction is crickets.
(PS3) The reason my recent Twitter thread about Donald Trump's use of violent, seditious imagery on December 20 went viral is because there's a growing percentage of Americans who understand that America is under *a real and present danger*. But there are still far too few of us.
(PS4) I'm old enough to remember a time—call it 2014—when a statement like this by someone like Flynn would cause all of DC and much of America to stop and actually gasp. Now it gets tweeted by a Pulitzer Prize-winning NYT journalist as merely a sign that Flynn is...inconsistent.
(PS5) I refuse to change my standards because of Trump's madness. Flynn's advocacy for a violent military coup against the Biden administration is a big deal—and not just another atrocity we can let float past our national window. We *can't* normalize public seditious incitement.
(PS6) These men aren't randos, either. They're close to Trump *and have advised him*. Here's former Trump adviser Lin Wood—from just a few weeks ago—saying that Trump is still the president and the military obeys his commands, not Biden's. "Someone" is letting The Former Guy have way more power than he should ever have had. That "someone" will regret that, no doubt in my mind. Oh the damage we'll suffer in the meantime, though. Consequences?
I don't think it's a single person, I think it's tens of millions of Republicans—guided by their elected leaders—making a decision that's profoundly short-sighted and shockingly amoral for a party that long prided itself on being the party of family values/performative patriotism
