Trump just retweeted a deranged claim that the current anti-police brutality protests "aren't protests—they're riots." He also endorsed calling them "American carnage" and "lawlessness." Why isn't the fact that Trump doesn't recognize the protests *as* protests getting coverage?
PS/ This *is* a significant shift. At first, Trump vaguely acknowledged protests were occurring. *Now* he doesn't acknowledge that *any* protests are occurring. I'm not sure how media has determined that this shift in rhetoric, framing, *and* government response isn't a big deal.
