It's a great story but one of tremendous sacrifice. Malaria killed a lot in the Jordan Valley during the war and then again when they were literally building the state with their hands.

The treatment for malaria in Palestine back then was something called Move To New Jersey And Become A Chicken Farmer. Experimental treatment but it had its uses.

Of course, the advantage of becoming a chicken farmer in NJ was that he and the others there could then run guns to Hagana through the man who built Asbury Park, who was Ben-Gurion's roommate in the war, with the help of the mob-controlled ports to evade US neutrality laws.
