Probably not a bad theory. Doesn't even need to be sex robots. Could be they perfected some form of simulated pleasure so potent that colonizing the universe pales in comparison.

Here are a couple of my personal favourite theories, both of which could be hybridized with these "shredders": a) Transcension ("our destiny is density") b) Aestivation (ie. heat hibernation till optimal energy-per-computation point is reached)

read the links, my only problem with those is not accounting for : in a civilisation there usually occurs difference of opinion unless its a hive mind ergo there will be some traces or some forking and divergence

Great point, and I agree it’s something of a question mark. Though perhaps given enough time even splinter groups will succumb to the pull of these attractors? Doesn’t explain why we couldn’t find artifacts/evidence left behind by such a civ
