At Replit, we believe that the current MSFT maintained incumbent, Monaco, is losing relevancy as the de facto way to edit code on the web. Unlike CM6, Monaco is bloated, difficult to customize, and doesn't support mobile (which is becoming increasingly important).

Regardless of how it plays out, we're excited to be early adopters of such a new and forward thinking approach to code editors and do all we can to give back to the community by open sourcing much of our work and sponsoring development.

Special shout out to , an absolutely incredible engineer, who's been quietly and single-handedly building out CodeMirror for years. It's been a pleasure getting to work directly with him and playing a small part in improving the experience of writing code on the web.
