  1. released their 2019 fire year summary and 2020 prescribed burn and mechanical treatment plans today. 15 wildfires totaling less than 3 acres. Over 800 acres of mechanical treatments and prescribed burns. Read the full story:

  3. We are expecting up to 3 feet of snow in one day, from Thursday morning to overnight. Please plan on travel delays, expect snow covered roads and low visibility, and bring tire chains if you are visiting us. Call 559-565-3341 for road conditions in the parks. Thanks !

  4. The Generals Hwy between the parks, from Wuksachi in Sequoia to the Hwy 180 intersection in Kings Canyon, will close today at 4 p.m. in advance of a winter storm. This portion of the highway typically closes shortly after New Years, but remained open due to clear roads.

  5. Late last week, firefighters responded to a non-residential multi-use building fire in the Grant Grove Village inside Kings Canyon NP. Cause is under investigation. There are no direct impacts to any visitor services & guest services remain open as scheduled.

  6. Happy New Year! If one of your resolutions is to get outdoors and this week we have great news, the weather is looking great and you currently don't need chains to see the giant sequoias. However, we are seeing patches of ice on the roads so slow down and be safe.

  7. On the last day of the year and the decade, we are thankful for YOU! The parks are expected to be very busy on New Years Day! To avoid the rush, consider arriving early - peak hours at the entrance stations are from 10am - 2pm.

  9. Our snowplay areas are open! Did you know there are designated snowplay areas in both parks that allow for safe parking and wide open areas for play? please check the park newspaper you receive upon entering the parks for more information.

  10. Did you or a loved one get a this week? We get it, drones are fun, but it is illegal to fly them in national parks. We and ask when you come visit your national parks, keep your drone at home and leave the flying to the birds.

  11. It's a winter wonderland in Sequoia and Kings Canyon, but in order to come have some fun in the snow, and see our majestic giant sequoias, remember that snow chains/cables are required, even if you have snow tires or 4WD. For current conditions call 559-565-3341 (dial 1, then 1).

  14. If you're planing a trip into the parks this week, please remember that weather in the valley / foothills is different than the weather among the giant sequoias - colder for sure. Plan for winter travel with tire chains / cables, extra clothes, water, and a full tank of gas.

  17. The Generals Hwy from Hospital Rock in Sequoia to Hwy 180 intersection remains closed today due to hazardous driving conditions. Grant Grove in Kings Canyon continues to be in R2 chain restrictions. Heavy visitation is expected with very limited parking available.

  18. Chains for your tires. Check. But do you have chains for your feet? Sunny days melt snow. Cold nights freeze this water as ice. Our trails are best suited for hiking, not ice skating. Proper footwear is key to a safe and enjoyable visit.

  19. The Big Stump entrance station into Kings Canyon from Hwy 180 is now open, with chain restrictions at R2. The Grant Tree road is also open with the same chain restrictions.
