If YOU suddenly became the DICTATOR of MATH: What "annoying" part of the standard Math Curriculum would be first on the chopping block?! For instance: I vote PEMDAS! We should only give students expressions with correct choice of parentheses!

“ Number is neither a trait of the concept, nor an operational fiction; neither an empirical given, nor a constitutive or transcendental category; neither a syntax, nor a language game, not even an abstraction from our idea of order. Number is a form of Being. ” - Alain Badiou

What are some good books on number theory, combinatorics and probability for beginners - people who haven't studied calculus yet? There must be some really clear, *fun* books like this. But I don't know them! Someone needs them... now! Thanks.

Galois was way ahead of his time. He died at the age of 20, but changed mathematics before he did. I just learned his views on math education were also prescient:

Mathematics is amazingly compressible... once you really understand it and have the mental perspective to see it as a whole, there is often a tremendous mental compression. The insight that goes with this compression is one of the real joys of mathematics." - William Thurston 📚
