Is it true, that this law was originally triggered by one huge german publisher and further by their complaisant german party? If so, how is it possible that such a small group is able to manipulate EUParl. and decide over 500 Million EU residents?

Axel Springer has become a large multinational publisher with newspapers in many European countries. They know how to use their power over public opinion to put pressure on politicians.
-
Do you mean not literally changing public opinion (writing articles now), but using their overall reach as a way to threat MEPs? Just curious, since Im journalist (partialy published by AS)
-
Springer met several heads of state to get them to change their position in Council, from what I hear. Springer papers have certainly written very favorably about the reform, not sure if they have written about Politicians in reaction to their stance on the link tax, though.
-
Well, there are always at least two opposing opinions on big topics. But if it was actually written that way with hidden intentions, its worrying... Content should always be independent. Its responsibility of individual editors in chief to ensure it

I assume you'll make a tweet or blogpost about what we can do in the coming days to prevent a bad vote on the 4th?
-
Here is some first info on what happened today: https://twitter.com/Senficon/status/1009445674490957824 … It’s pretty straight forward, each of the 751 MEPs will get to vote yes or no. Make sure they hear your voice! Contact them, stage protests!
-
Will they have to vote for the bill as a whole, or per article/amendment?
-
The vote in July will be a Yes/No vote on whether to accept what the committee decided (the whole package). If the answer is no, then changes can be made at the next session in September.
-
And if they vote yes, does it mean that the copyright directive becomes official or does it still need a final vote (from what I've heard) at the end of the year?

You singled-out euroskeptics as having voted for this abomination. That's a very important and unexpected allegation. Would you be able to say exactly who those people where, or would you have a link? I would be extremely interested in a vote breakdown.
-
Here you go: https://twitter.com/thibaultmol/status/1009444807926788097 … Not all who voted in favour are Eurosceptics, but there is a clear tendency.
-
Thanks, I'll gladly have a look when I find some time to study it.

-

The public need to know individual vote for each adopted amendment. MEP lack of transparency with this undemocratic electronic procedure. Europe is still and always working behind closed doors.
-
It’s not the electronic vote that is the problem, it’s that votes in committee are not recorded at all. I agree this should change, but blaming
@KaufmannSylvia for it is just silly. -
We don’t blame anyone in particular but we strongly argue against this non transparent procedure.
