Nearly 1/3 of kids in #NM are at risk of falling behind in school because they can't access internet at home. Today, @SenCoryGardner & I introduced a bill to close the #homeworkgap by putting wi-fi on school buses so kids can get online, study & do homework during their commute.pic.twitter.com/oGDO48tPA4

Every New Mexico kid should have every opportunity to succeed – no matter where they live. I'm committed to expanding broadband access and closing the digital divide that hurts too many rural New Mexico communities, Tribes and low-income families.

I recently helped launch @Google & @SFPSdistrict's Rolling Study Hall program, which is equipping 6 school buses with wi-fi for studying & homework. Wi-fi equipped buses can help ensure students without access to internet at home have every opportunity to succeed in school.pic.twitter.com/ryMrBkuiIs

You really thinks kids are going to do homework on the bus to and from school??? This really shows how out of touch you are not with just New Mexico but with Reality!

I've met many poor ppl. I was one. Never known any who didnt have net unless they didnt want it. Highspeed access starts at $20mo. I saw network news reports about "poor" ppl in USA. They had plasma screen TVs when I didnt. And they all have smart phones. #Propaganda @seanhannity

Worry less about the DACA illegals and more about your citizens and this wouldn’t be an issue

Yes New Mexico needs Internet access but putting Wi-Fi on school buses is asinine. Those kids will not have the time or inclination to do their homework on the bus. Another idiotic liberal idea to waste taxpayer dollars, pathetic.

What absolute crap that you would think students would use the internet on buses for homework? What a horrendous waste of funds.

Senator: Baby Boomers did not grow up with computers in our homes and many of us did just fine. We actually read books. Just imagine. We did math before calculators. We typed reports on typewriters. We got jobs, earned money, bought homes, had children etc. etc. JM

In Venezuela 2/3 or 5/6 of kids don't go to the school because they don't have money for food, don't have transport ,don't have medicine and foods ...Internet is the worst in the world ...about 56 kb/s

Grata idea, but needs to be privately funded by big tech. Government involvement will just slow it down, fail to keep tech updated, etc. Putting this data on cellular and letting private tech firms execute will lead to a better program without bureaucracy and regulation.
