Open source is exactly what a free world looks like. We shouldn't have to fund it though, just require educational institutions that receive federal money in any form to use open source information. You are half right, half terribly wrong. Right direction though.

And more. As a native who grew up here, went to school here, and pays taxes here, I'm insulted at what I need to pay for my daughters' education, with scholarships, to go to school and live in state.

Open source (online, presumably) wouldn’t only help with the expense. Those 3-figure books usually weigh a ton—so they can’t be easily studied anywhere but sitting bolt upright at a desk or table. Who reads like that nowadays?

Can confirm that my $171 biology textbook (which we are only actually using about 1/3 of) weighs 10 pounds. The online version costs $170 (what a savings!), but I can only rent the physical book for $30/semester.

I remember I had to buy a math textbook that cost roughly $450. And we only used it for midterms and final since we only needed the access code which of course they didn't sell separately
