    Congress passed legislation in 1887 to give northern Idaho back to Washington, and another proposal in the Senate would have given southern Idaho to Nevada. However, President Grover Cleveland pocket-vetoed the bill, thanks Grover!

    Happy ! On this date in 1863, Pres. Abraham Lincoln signed the Territory of Idaho into existence. Despite what this erroneous map from the NY Herald shows, the territory initially contained all of present-day , Montana, and most of Wyoming.
