Landra and I offer our condolences to the Bush family and join the country in mourning President Bush’s passing.

President Bush was one of the finest leaders I’ve had the privilege of knowing and working with. He was both pragmatic and gracious. I will never forget the handwritten letters he wrote me when I did something he deemed worthy of a few generous words.

We came from different parties and disagreed politically, but there was never any doubt that President Bush stood for what he thought was right – even if it cost him politically. He will be remembered as a man who valued principle over ideology.

President George H.W. Bush was the embodiment of a leader and a statesman. He came to office as one of the most qualified people ever elected President and, above all, he was among the most decent. He was kind, generous and determined to do the right thing for his country.

John and I both ended our final call a few weeks ago by telling each other, ‘I love you,’ and that was how we felt about one another. There will never be another John McCain. Landra and I join the country in mourning his passing and offer our condolences to Cindy and his family.

John McCain was a war hero, a strong, independent fighter and my friend. Our country lost an iconic leader today, and I will miss him terribly.

If anyone says they have the answers, they’re fooling themselves. We don’t know the answers but we have plenty of evidence to support asking the questions. This is about science and national security. If America doesn’t take the lead in answering these questions, others will.
