I’ve met countless teachers who spend their own money on supplies for their students. That’s why I authored the law allowing them to deduct up to $250 for these expenses, a small token of appreciation for all they do to help children learn & succeed.https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/teachers-shelling-out-nearly-500-a-year-on-school-supplies-report-finds/2018/05/14/af2affae-57b8-11e8-b656-a5f8c2a9295d_story.html?utm_term=.c6b2bcdb4837 …

An extremely small token given the deduction is worth about $50 to most teachers. Meanwhile you gave corporations a massive tax cut and doubled the estate tax exemption to over $22 million for very wealthy couples. #GOPTaxScam

If you really cared about teachers you would have advocated for more modest tax cuts so there would be more funding available to fund our public schools.

I’m a teacher...your $250 is just laughable. You’re small token amounts to nothing. In fact it’s just insulting.

Maine is my home state. Met Susan at the capital about ten years ago. She gave me hope. She has crushed whatever hope I had. Partisan politics will be the death of our country - @SenatorCollins you could have made a difference. You didn’t.

Further, I am astounded that you feel that teachers need a token BS tax write offs for school supplies when DOE and DeVraud continually undercut public education 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐 and yet a 250 pittance is all you can muster?

or maybe we could just fund schools instead of patting ourselves on the back for saving teachers a few dozen dollars.

Save your claims of helping people with a tax credit. Where is Health Care? The Glorious Much Better Than Obama Care, you and that Liar in the WH promised? YOU still have Obama Care having exempted yourselves from changes. You voted to enrich your donors and forgot the voters.

Most take standard deduction anyway, so this effort is more of a political pat-on-the-back than actual help for teachers. Give a stipend instead. Too bad you already gave that $$ away to corporations via tax reform.

With all due respect (and I am not a teacher), to call this a token of appreciation is insulting. Deducting ALL the expenses and even better, making them a tax credit, is FAIRNESS, which is far more desirable in a wealthy country than a "token."

As a retired teacher.... Don't play around with feel good measures, properly fund education! Teachers shouldn't be providing their own teaching suppliers and painting their own classrooms because there's no money in the budget.
