This is unacceptable. I coauthored the legislation that created this important program in 2002, which is designed to give rural schools funding and flexibility to overcome the unique challenges associated with geographic isolation and poverty.
I wrote to the Department to urge them to reverse this misguided decision, which risks denying thousands of students living in rural Maine the chance to reach their full potentials.
