If college athletes are going to make money off their likenesses while in school, their scholarships should be treated like income. I’ll be introducing legislation that subjects scholarships given to athletes who choose to “cash in” to income taxes.

I would love to sit down and have a conversation with you to try to understand why you feel this way. I also think you could benefit from hearing a former college athlete’s perspective on why it’s important and long overdue for these kids to be able to “cash in”.

Absolutely. DM me and we’ll set it up. I played D1 football myself (one of only a few former players in the Senate), so I’m also thinking about this as a former athlete — albeit one of the 99% who never went pro.

A good piece of legislation would be to require the NCAA to requires students to take financial literacy/finance courses, so that they can learn how to invest the funds in real estate, land, & the stock market. More economic opportunity with limited taxes is the conservative way.

Unless this bill extends to all students on scholarship who derive income in other ways, it gets challenged and shot down. Not sure how you can’t grasp that concept.
