Our elected officials and their delegates could negotiate for us! You could hire experts so, “consumers” as you call us, don’t need to have medical degrees & pharmaceutical training!

You could argue that consumers can not afford medically necessary prescription drugs, giving them nearly literal skin in the game. How much more skin should patients have in this game?

Most people don't even know the language or words to use to negotiate their complicated diagnosis - especially while ill. Healthcare is not like other consumables - way more complicated than buying a car or TV!

I really can't shop around when I'm having a heart attack or stroke and every second counts, when there is only 1 primary care physician for every 1600 people in my town, when there is only one hospital within traveling distance... competition doesn't work without competitors.

One last thought here: Republicans last attempt to make healthcare competitive gave us the joys of HDHPs with HSAs. My wife and I are enjoying our first full year of both of us being on them and the 3x increase in our net healthcare costs due to patented maintenance drugs.
