I am an independent community pharmacist. I deal with buying and selling drugs in this market every day. You have the right idea questioning why they have so much power in how it all works out. The current system is broken and my patients pay more at the pharmacy as a result.

Middle men don't set prices, but they do benefit financially and should be eliminated. However, if you think letting Big Pharma set drug prices based on market forces will fix the problem you are either delusional or in their pocket. I'm going with the latter.
-
I am not so sure that I agree since middlemen are the most profitable companies and do not contribute to health or care!

Intermediaries set prices in every industry that isn’t factory-direct. If you’re buying retail, you’re paying middlemen. Braun either cannot grasp the market or communicate it effectively. As a guy who sold imported truck parts at his dad’s company he’s an experienced middleman.

Trust me, he knows. He counts on his constituents not knowing. All you have to do is look at his FB page to see it.

I picked up a prescription a month ago. After my insurance paid $75, my part was $24. I asked why it was so high? The pharmacist told me if I would pay cash and just run it as if I did not have insurance the total price to me would be $17. That's wrong.

Try asking the Pharmacist what is the cash price every time you get a generic. You will be shocked.
