Never thought I'd throw a view to Breitbart ever, but I did on this one. Okay. The problem Rs have with coming up with a better alternative to the ACA is that it *already* has conservative ideas in it. Over 100! The marketplaces, that whole concept is a conservative idea...

That’s what makes the entire GOP resistance to the ACA so unbelievable. Obama was using their idea and they couldn’t support it because they promised to oppose every single thing he did

The second problem is that R solutions are market oriented, but market solutions tend not to work with healthcare because of inelastic demand. No matter how much X costs, I will pay {or go bankrupt trying) for X, because the alternative is... Death.

GOP had 9 years to come up with something. Braun ran on having a plan. All the GOP can come up with is junk insurance that pays little to nothing and doesn't cover the Rx drugs Braun thinks are too costly even w/ insurance. Voters suckered again by the GOP.

The ACA, while flawed, is actually pretty decent middle ground between monolithic single payer and full throated market solutions. A lot of its structural problems were supposed to be solved by the 50 state Medicaid expansion, which Rs blocked and weakened the whole system.

It’s not a race. The ACA was the compromise and your party decided to sabatoge it instead of strengthen it. Your party will never solve it because it will require all citizens to participate ie the mandate. Pricing is only 1 piece of the puzzle.

So there are two big problems in the healthcare policy space. One is that we spend far too much time arguing about who is going to pay the bill and not nearly enough time talking about how the bill itself is way too high (5x our OECD counterparts for no better outcomes)...
