The US has an illness-based industry, not a health-based industry. Until we promote healthy body, minds, and spirit, and embrace regular exercise and healthy nutrition in place of fixing the broken-often times at all costs- the expenses will escalate.

The health care system and BIG PHARMA has to keep us sick so they can continue to sell drugs and make big profits. Most nurses and doctors don't even know how to take blood pressure readings which could very well cause some people to be on BP meds when they don't have to.

I would point out that most of that is due to government regulation; ones that the GOP have not talked about repealing. I wonder why that is?

Pharma can charge whatever price they want for drugs and spend more on marketing than research. Braun's bill doesn't address this glaring problem. And this is also happening under the Republican watch with a Republican President so you don't need to blame Obama on this though this started under the Obama Administration. You have Republicans not working with you so your plan though I agree with it isn't going anyplace.

Good on you Senator Braun for looking into this. Really hurts our elderly. My father in-law was recently prescribed a med that cost $421 for a one month supply. He got the exact same med from the VA for $11. Why is that?? Many don’t have the VA benefit option.
