Today marks the 80th anniversary of the executive order that forced the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans at facilities like Amache in Colorado during WWII.
I joined along with Amache survivors and descendants at the site to mark this solemn anniversary.

I’m incredibly grateful for Granada High School Principal John Hopper and his students who have worked to preserve Amache and gave us a tour of the site today.
And a huge thanks to Granada for their willingness to donate their land.

Now that our bill is heading to the president's desk, I look forward to seeing Amache get the recognition it deserves.

It was a moving day today at Amache. Glad I got to be there.

Did you know there were Italian intern camps too?
This site is a forever reminder and one we must protect for our sake of never returning to that atrocity to our own ever again. It should be part of every tourist's tour when seeking our Colorado History.
