As I understand it, the last decade when a majority of American primary wage earners could afford ADEQUATE nongroup health insurance - was the 80s -insurance good enough to keep them out of bankruptcy when they had a serious illness even if they lost their jobs- More than 30 yrs

Yes, premium costs and cost share amounts started increasing long before the ACA. The ACA did, at least for a time, slow the rate of increase. It also gave people with pre-existing conditions and young adults the opportunity to get coverage, something not always possible pre-ACA

Obomacare ruined the industry for middle class. Now if you could afford it, its basically worthless! Gov should have left it alone. Older folks cannot even afford to retire til 65 even if they want. Insurance cost them 1000 month with no telling how high deductibles.
