my obgyn (for example) won’t see me without an insurance plan, though, so i am stuck with wasting my $ on a junk plan.

It makes complete sense for these plans to spend less on healthcare. The people who buy them are usually younger and healthier. Remember, people choose these plans because they save thousands. The ACA is still there if people want those options, they're just gonna cost more.
