Is this truly about the so called “junk plans”? Or about a one size fits all universal Medicare plan being pushed by senator Baldwin and her party? I prefer competition for my dollar, not a mandate that gives me just one choice.

A junk plan wouldn't have given me the coverage to discover and fight my cancer.
#ACA literally saved my life.#NoJunkPlans -
Are you somsure about that? My wife fought and beat cancer long before this whole ACA legislation was enacted. Was that a junk plan? That was back when insurance companies competed for my business. Now they have zero incentive to compete.
-
Insurance companies don’t compete—that’s an oxymoron. They charge what they want to who they want and they don’t want sick people or people predisposed to cancer.
-
Under current market environment, you are correct. We need a market that competes for our business. Without competition, they can do what they want, and do as little as they want. A single payer is encouraging mediocrity.
-
A single payer system will encourage people to see a doctor to stay well. The name of the game is keeping people healthy so they don’t have expensive heart attacks or strokes. I am a firm believer in capitalism, but I don’t think competing for healthcare works for everyone.
-
What encourages people to see a doctor is not single payer, but the fact that they have insurance to cover it. Now, if their deductible is to high, that is then counterproductive. Single payer will drive up prices and drive down services.
-
Not at all. Single payer means we all get the same deal as Medicare. I have Medicare, which costs about $1600 a year (Part B is not free). I have zero deductibles. Single payer will drive prices down because the cost of healthcare would be spread among the entire population.

It is law that all insurance companies must cover pre existing. More lies by TOO LATE TAMMY

Actuary here. Junk plans don’t have to follow the ACA rules. That’s why they call them junk plans. They don’t cover pre-existing conditions or basic benefits. Many don’t cover maternity, emergency visits, prescription drugs. Maybe try reading before going all caps.
-
Then people don’t buy them. You forget, insurance isn’t mandatory anymore, people@can buy what they want
-
1/ I forget nothing. I know more about this subject than you ever could. The individual mandate is required to make insurance work. If you are not constantly insured, then when you do get sick, either you have to pay the full price of treatment or you are getting welfare.
-
Mary you are missing the point, if the consumer doesn’t want the plan, they don’t get it, which in favor lowers the price of plan. Or the good plans will also compete to@get business and they will lower. One plan doesn’t work for everyone.
-
You’re missing the point and completely incorrect. When someone who has not been paying for insurance gets sick and then needs insurance, unless they pay the full price of their treatment, everyone else pays for it in form of raised premiums.

If I am a person that won’t need maternity care, why should I pay for a coverage I don’t need. Would you pay insurance premiums for a Lamborghini when you own a Kia
