Today's news that President Trump has decided, effective 3/2019, to terminate Deferred Enforced Departure (DED)— that’s allowed survivors of Liberia’s civil war to stay in the US without fear of deportation—is shameful.

And JP Yates is doing exactly what? That you said he's "on it" tells me nothing.

Liberians that have been here since 1992 and never had time to legally get American citizenship? And now you want them to stay? Wish you cared about Americans as much as you do illegal aliens
-
I'd agree with you in principle, except there's never been a path to citizenship established for these folks. It wasn't about having time - it was about the fact that there was legal path made available. DED (the program Trump is canning) was all they ever had.
-
Why not create a new program where these folks can apply, prove how long they've been here and that they don't have a criminal record, and give them a chance to stay?
-
Don't need a program for illegal aliens. Need a law passed to protect them if that's what we the people want
-
1) These are refugees, not illegal aliens. They're here legally and always have been. 2) I agree we need a law. An extension of DED is a band-aid on the problem. Since this group is the only one currently under DED, it would be good to see legislation addressing this.
-
Of course with the current Congressional environment, asking for legislation is like rubbing a lamp and making a wish. I still think it's cruel to revoke their status when 45 knows well that Congress is unable to function. Hopefully the intervening year will be enough to fix it.
-
On 45 revoking the status of liberians, I see it as forcing or trying to anyway the Congress into acting so he doesn't have to pass laws by executive order as Obama did.
-
I voted Obama twice and it bothered me, too, that he used so many EOs. I wasn't upset at all to see them challenged in court. Use of executive orders should be and has to be limited, otherwise we have a king, not a president.

Since 1992 how many of the 30k Liberian refugees applied for and were denied US citizenship?
