Today marks the 25th anniversary of the landmark Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). While #FMLA guarantees workers time off to care for a new child or a sick family member, it doesn't require that an employee be paid for that time. We need to change that. #FMLA25

A couple of weeks ago, I sat down with paid family leave advocates and Minnesotans at
@UMNews@HHHSchool who’ve benefited from family leave policies because I believe there’s more we must do for workers.pic.twitter.com/UXtOkroDgo

While I served as Lieutenant Governor, I worked to provide paid family leave for 34,000 State of Minnesota employees. And now, I want to build on that success and be a part of enacting paid family leave for families in MN and across the country.

Workers shouldn't be forced to go without a paycheck when they take time off to care for a new child or a sick family member. That's why I'm supporting the
#FAMILYAct, which would provide paid leave for private-sector workers.#FMLA25 https://www.facebook.com/USSenTinaSmith/posts/593593130987118 …Show this thread

Employers will do things that can't be proven in court. The can stop promotion tracks of people that take family leave They can slowly phase out the workers position then fire them. They will favor hiring men A law for the wealthy which will negatively effect working poor

Just like ACA would give all workers working 35 hours a week health insurance from their employer...oh wait employers cut their hours to avoid it. Employers will just avoid women in child bearing age if this passes. The working poor will be the most effected.

I thought this issue was a pet of
@IvankaTrump She was going to do so much for working moms & mom-to-bes. Haven't seen her lift a finger to help on this. I guess she found that it'll help Dem moms as well as Repubs & gave up. Thx Dems for keeping on.https://twitter.com/SenTinaSmith/status/960638371272982528 …Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

It may sound crazy, but many of life's answers are,
#UniversalBaseWage would work. I'm not suggesting folks can't earn more than base, and I do think if you make more than a certain amount the excess should be redistributed. I realize how it sounds, but I think it's a good idea.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
