After decades of hard work, Minnesotans who paid in to a good pension deserve to retire with the peace of mind that they won’t lose their hard-earned retirement. But right now, problems plaguing our nation’s pension system threaten to upend that promise.

Today in Duluth I met with Sherman Liimatainen, Vice President of the National United Committee to Protect Pensions, and Central States Pension Fund retirees to talk about how we can fix this problem.pic.twitter.com/ZeXPNUeIPs

When I get back to Washington, I will make a full-court press on protecting people's pensions. We must ensure that Minnesota retirees, like the ones I met today, don’t have the rug pulled out from under them.

Please remember all of us hard-working people in the entire US who paid for a lifetime into Social Security and Medicare also deserve to receive these benefits as the Republicans attempt to strip these away from us.

You'd better keep an eye on @pewresearch -- they've put in quite a bit of money and personnel into getting rid of public defined benefit/pension plans in states around the US.

People who worked hard, and paid into pensions, do deserve a decent pension. However, school pensions have been going up unrealistically with a high percentage than most pensions, and our property taxes have been going up to cover those unfair increases.

For example: Why did they get an increase of 11%? I worked hard with DOD for 47 years, and we would get a 1% raise after 3 years which never kept up with inflation. My pension after that time working on complex missile systems is very low in comparison.

high tax states, Cal, ILL, NY, Conn all suffering pension shortages. could be they promised unions the world in exchange for votes and didn't deliver?

NO. In NJ’s case, He Who Shall Not Be Named refused to adequately fund the pensions.

It all comes down to this, American companies do not want to pay American workers. They don't like SS & Medicare, then pay a living wage, retirement, & healthcare for retirerees

@SenTinaSmith Don't worry, President Trump is fixing the pension problem by more growth on pension investments, more jobs for more contributions and higher paying jobs for more contributions! MAGA 🇺🇸

Congress stole the 2.7 trillion SS Trust fund all Americans paid into and replaced it with a IOU. All Americans depend on this for retirement. Other than the 1 billion dollar donations by unions to Democrats shouldn't you replace the 2.7 trillion first?
