Our nation’s #skillsgap has left employers in Minnesota and across the country with millions of good-paying jobs they can’t fill because they can’t find enough trained workers.pic.twitter.com/k25MBNm3wW

Today I’m at @WyomingMachine, a sheet metal company owned by 2 sisters in Stacy, MN. I'm meeting w/ the business’ owners, Lori & Traci Tapani, as well as local educators & workforce development experts to discuss MN’s workforce shortages & efforts needed to address #skillsgap.pic.twitter.com/ta43AODnOE

As Senator, I’m going to lead the fight in tackling the #skillsgap to help strengthen our workforce, create more good-paying jobs, and maintain our country’s competitiveness.

We had wood shop, metal shop, typing class, drivers ed, art and music, and home economics in my public high school in 1970's. Not anymore. Now even the community colleges are deleting welding and auto mechanics. Gov saves money and USA lacks skills. #skillsgap

We need to bring back vocational ed in HS. People should graduate from HS with ability to earn a living, whether they go on to college or not. We need more apprenticeships, OJT too. TX had a good program where students spent half day learning at a company, half day in classes.

        Allow telecommuting for tech jobs.

I was a medical transcriptionist who telecommuted. The work has mostly been sent off shore, i.e. India. Coding, billing, reading xrays are now offshored. Telecommuting can be tricky slope w/o regs - if it can be done at home here, can be sent overseas.
