  1. Jim Shaughnessy, one of America’s great rail photographers, has passed away. Here is an image he took in his hometown of Troy, NY, in 1952. His book “Essential Witness: Sixty Years of Railroad Photography” is tremendous.

  2. ...he is now telling the Committee what the rest of the Senate and the American public can see – and Republicans are playing along. We are seeing layer after layer of unprecedented secrecy in what is quickly becoming the least transparent nominations process in history. 2/2

  3. Every day, Republican obstruction of Kavanaugh’s record gets worse and worse. Not only is a massively conflicted Republican lawyer, who previously worked for Judge Kavanaugh, cherry-picking what documents the Senate Judiciary Committee can see... 1/2

  4. This tragic loss of life of our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico is unconscionable. We must do more to both hold this administration accountable for a terrible response and help Puerto Rico recover, rebuild and thrive again.

More than 2,000 zombie homes plague the Rochester region. That’s why I’m calling on HUD to immediately approve request to acquire vacant homes, rehabilitate & sell to 1st-time homebuyers. This renovated home shows how we can turn zombie homes into family homes.

Met w/ officials this morning at Finger Lakes Area Counseling & Recovery Agency to thank them for their work & announce my push for more funding to fight the opioid epidemic. Yates Co has been hit hard: 2nd most severely-impacted county per capita in Rochester-Finger Lakes Region

This process is opaque, partisan, and unacceptable for a lifetime position on the highest court in the land. We have to ask: What are Republicans trying to hide?

And your process for getting the tiny % of Kavanaugh’s WH documents you have actually requested is being led by a lawyer who not only has a partisan history—the American people learned this weekend that he used to report to Kavanaugh in the White House!

This is not about me. The Senate & the American people deserve to have a full vetting of the nominee, just like you asked for and Democrats gave you for Justice Kagan. Republicans should want to see these documents just as much as Democrats.

Judge Kavanaugh himself said his time as Staff Secretary was “formative” & “instructive” to him as a judge—and Republicans won’t agree to even review those docs.

But here’s the problem. Despite all these reasons to oppose Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination, the bulk of his record is being kept hidden from the public.

The small percentage of Brett Kavanaugh’s record that is public is cause for great concern, including his decisions related to our health care law, women’s constitutional rights & his dangerously expansive beliefs about presidential power and accountability.

Chairman Grassley, as you will recall, I opposed Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination to the DC Circuit in 2006 because I believed he was a political operative not suited for the bench. Given what we have learned since that time, I still believe that today.

53 years after the passage of the , our rights are under attack. In 2013, decided 5-4 to strip critical protections of Section 5 of the VRA. With the Kavanuagh nomination, even more Americans could be at risk of being disenfranchised.

To save lives, LI’s cops, firefighters and EMTs use the T-band for radio communication. But unwise Fed law demands they move from T-Band radios to unproven and expensive new system. That's why I'm pushing a bill to protect this critical radio spectrum.
