I have long believed that states should function as their own laboratories of democracy. My bill is a step in the right direction aimed at removing the barriers to state legalization efforts.

So why have I changed my stance? Looking at the numbers helped. 2/3 of Americans believe marijuana should be legalized, meanwhile more than half of all drug arrests in the United States are marijuana arrests. (https://www.aclu.org/gallery/marijuana-arrests-numbers …)

And under existing law, the federal government considers marijuana as dangerous as heroin and treats it less favorably than cocaine. That has to change.

In addition to decriminalization, my bill will invest critical resources into the THC research needed to prevent unintended effects on our youth and ensure highway safety.

Any decriminalization bill that does not ALSO include a way for those with marijuana crimes to expunge their records is a half measure. The War on Drugs is unjust and racist. It must be torn out root and branch.

Why on Earth are NATURAL PLANTS illegal while lab-produced drugs get commercial time?

Seriously, you don’t get it?

It was a rhetorical question.

I hope this will include releasing all nonviolent marijuana offenders from our prisons. There are many medical benefits from marijuana. This is a step in the right direction, thank you Senator.

-
Agree but not traffickers.
-
I guess you will need to explain to me what you mean by traffickers. Are you talking about The big dogs that have pounds of weed? IMO, if the offender is in prison related to marijuana charges, & have no violence charges they should be released immediately.

Your opinion is irrelevant because it doesn’t align with the law. Just another fine example where people think their opinion on a subject matters or should even be considered.
-
No one's opinion is ever irrelevant, the statement diminishes the individual and his or her voice. If we cannot have discussions as a nation, we will be stagnant. Have a nice day.

-
False. Opinions can absolutely be irrelevant. Walk into an astrophysics conference and proclaim your opine the world is flat.
-
Right, but for fact sake, OMG, you put something on Twitter that has Pluto on it as a planet.
