Are you abdicating your duty for Congressional approval? Again.
-
You don't understand the law. Stop being anti-Trump long enough to understand what was done tonight & why.
-
Please explain how this is covered by the existing AUMF. And if possible, do so without the condescension.
-
To be clear, Assad is horrendous & evil. General Mattis said this was Article 2 authority. Please identify the national security threat which this action was done in response to. Also, what is the strategy? Single strike occurred last year & did nothing to change the situation.
-
As commander in chief he has the authority to approve military action. We have troops on the ground in Syria and to keep them safe he can do what’s necessary. That being said I do see the other side of it. Trump did criticize Obama for striking Syria.
-
Thanks for the intelligent response, Zac. So the national defense/Article 2 argument is that bombing Damascus protects our soldiers who are elsewhere in Syria? I can see your point though feels like a stretch. BTW, I also thought Obama needed to go to Congress.
-
That I can appreciate. The War Powers Act says that the president has 60 before having to go to congress. Regardless I do lean more towards being supportive of this seeing as it was a limited strike to keep our troops and the people of Syria safe.
-
Yes, I do know about the 60 days. POTUS said it was to be a "sustained response" which is what I was reacting to…that's rather vague & sound extensive. However, later, Gen Mattis said it was one-off. I guess time will tell. Thanks for the respectful exchange.
