What's to stop providers from completely dictating the type of news someone gets? If net neutrality is eliminated, the financial piece will be secondary; conservative media owners will buy up ISPs and force feed fake news with no checks from other media. That is what's at stake

Net neutrality has only been around since 2015 (I think). We've had wide spread access to the internet since early to mid 90s I don't remember anyone protesting back then or could it be because it's President Trump cutting back more of former President Obama's regulations
