Chuck Schumer Retweeted New York Daily News

Over the past couple of weeks, we have lost some very well-known people, near and dear to so many in New York, but in the past year, we have lost tens-of-thousands of lives to suicide in this country. 45,000 to be exact. One is too many. 45,000 demands action. Read more:https://twitter.com/nydailynews/status/1005917864929431552 …

Where was your concern about this over the past 19 years you've been in office? Where was the concern when veterans were committing suicide? You're not a leader, you're just using suicide as a reelection issue. #SchumerScam #notreallyconcerned

It’s amazing that it takes tragedy of famous people to have something done. It should be done when the average person is in trouble. 😡

Mental health is very hard to get in this country. Too much red tape from the insurance companies. It won't change though. I live in an area where there is an higher than average suicide rate. Unless people have access and coverage it will continue. Sad fact.

As I understand it, the rising suicide rate correlates reasonably well with federal and state spending cutbacks on these same programs.

Prevention is education re-engineering, well-paying jobs, economic security, functional families, caring communities and effective modern planning for prison systems, veterans and the needy. These HUGE issues are dented, kicked cans. Basta!

Why does our Congress wait until things are so bad before they decide something needs done You've done it with healthcare, immigration, opoids and now suicides. Yet you've had these numbers for years just like mass shootings and did nothing for years Do you always have to 1/2

2/2 have protests all over the country to even try and still you fail, just because you don't want to work with each other. Guess you think that makes you stronger to resist but it only makes you weaker. That is not the American way, you ate suppose to work for all.

I'm so grateful to hear you calling for action. PLEASE consider that promoting suicide hotlines is NOT effective. Fully covered Mental Healthcare IS, along with ALL physical health needs (gender specific, dental, eye etc.) The brain is just another organ. It ALL works together.
