        You're not 'cancelling' anything. You're transferring the burden to the tax-paying public, many of whom did not have the luxury of running up tens of thousands in student debt.

        Actually, Congress pushed Fannie and Freddie to buy more subprime loans, to the point where they were the only buyers. Then the govt changed the accounting rules, forcing banks to raise massive amounts of capital. The 2008 crash was caused by congress not Wall Street
