This week I sent a letter to @SenCapito along with my Senate colleagues urging Congress to safeguard pay for U.S. Coast Guard members during any future government shutdown.
Our service men & women should not suffer because Congress can't do their jobs.

Government shutdowns are a tragedy for all affected, including members of the USCG. Congress has the power to prevent such tragedies. Shutdowns should not happen. The signatories to this letter remind me of the comic strip Pogo’s “We have met the enemy and he is us.”
