Generators should be placed at least 20ft away. This is consistent with the CPSC, CDC and almost all others. Please help to promote this important warning.
Safety when using a generator is paramount. If you are using a generator while you are without power, NEVER put it inside, even in your garage. Generators must be AT LEAST 15 feet away from doors, windows, and vents.

Also If you use the generator to feed your electrical distribution panel please open the main breaker preventing backfeeding of the main power lines and possibly injuring linemen working to restore power
