Given the grim IPCC report released yesterday, perhaps it is appropriate to consider at this point the "mortality cost of carbon" calculation:

It doesn't have to be this way, but if we don't act decisively now it will be. We must change how we are doing things, but change doesn't have to be negative. It can lead to better days ahead. (3/3)

The differences in technology, cost, and emissions are among the reasons why we are seeing such a rapid shift in power production. We are starting to see the same dynamic with electric vehicles too.

It's disheartening (tho I guess not surprising) to see so much of the discussion today devolve into "wind is unreliable" versus "no, gas is unreliable."
This is not a resource problem. This is a system problem.
CLIMATE. CHANGE. MAKES. EVERYTHING. UNRELIABLE.

. — Climate Change is not just an environmental issue, it is an economic issue. All the smartest economists agree on this: The cost of fighting climate change now is nothing compared to the cost of suffering through it later.

.@JanetYellen and I know that this is not a moment, it’s a movement – so we’re turning climate energy into climate action with climate finance. It is cheaper to prevent damage than it is to clean it up. Common sense. #HistoryIsHappening Climate

This is a realistic assessment of what the policy landscape looks like in Congress for energy legislation. States will have to continue to lead on climate, but it will certainly help to have an administration on the same page.
