My Prius is averaging 47 miles to the gallon when I don't pay attention to how I am driving. Seats 4 comfortably with room for luggage. Not a difficult target to reach if you hybridize.

The decreased fuel usage driven by the standards also reduces demand for oil and revenue for autocracies like Russia, Mid-east countries, and Venezuela. Reduced revenues decreases their ability to menace the world and could result in regime change in some.
