Last year, the CDC reported that life expectancy in America has declined for the second year in a row and that drug overdoses were the largest contributor to this trend. But despite years of despair and inaction, we are making some real progress on the #OpioidCrisis. #RxSummit
Last month, Congress passed a spending bill that will finally infuse an additional $3.3 billion to support improved surveillance, more research, and state grants to combat the #OpioidCrisis through prevention, treatment, and recovery services. #RxSummit
The spending package also included funding for legislation that I authored with @SenRubioPress called the INTERDICT Act. This bill equips our border patrol agents with advanced technological tools and resources to help stanch the flow of fentanyl across our borders. #RxSummit
But there is so much more we need to do. That’s why I’m introducing the Opioid MILESTONES Act. This bill will require the federal government to set tangible benchmarks for how we are addressing the #OpioidCrisis in our country and measure progress on key objectives every year.
We need to start measuring our progress or we will continue to fight the same battle over and over again. My legislation will provide a national roadmap for ensuring that our federal and state resources pay lifesaving dividends. #RxSummit
