What’s your plan? Cut them off and let people die? Part of investing big in Puerto Rico is *necessarily* going to include close watch over how and where the money is spent. It’s not like giving them a big check and saying “Hey we’ll have a look around later, spend this wherever!”
American citizens in Puerto Rico and the USVI may be on islands, but we must ensure that they are never alone. Puerto Rico has never been alone despite San Juan’s San Jusn Mayor’s claim. But to ask US taxpayers to retire PR’s debt-a debt held by Wall Street vultures that have bought that debt on pennies on the dollar is short of criminal and a political payoffs.
