I’ve learned that the @StateDept decided to overlook major problems regarding the election in #Thailand, certifying that a democratically-elected government has taken office. This decision is troubling.
I support a stronger alliance with Thailand. But, I fear Secretary Pompeo’s action signals to would-be authoritarians around the world that the United States is unilaterally surrendering the leverage it has to promote democracy around the world.
