Today’s ICE raids are designed for peak cruelty: tear families apart, stoke fear in immigrant communities & throw more people into already overcrowded facilities. Here’s Trump’s vicious manufactured cycle to criminalize immigrants & push an overcrowded system to a breaking point:
1) Refuse to use alternatives to detention programs to release from ICE facilities, create overcrowding 2) Refuse to release on recognizance from CBP facilities at the border, create overcrowding
3) Conduct raids and flood already crowded ICE facilities with more people 4) Continue to criminalize immigrants who pose no public safety threat
We could and should be releasing migrants who aren’t safety risks as we have in the past, but Trump wants it this way. He wants it to reach a boiling point and stoke hate with his base of supporters. When Trump talks about the immigration crisis, he’s admiring his own work.
